All right , welcome back everybody For this FreshLink Deep Dive . We are going to be talking all about TLDs . Tlds , which you know maybe sounds a little dry at first , but it's hitry right . But stick with us , it's actually way more interesting than you might think it all comes down to like how those little letters at the end of your web address you know the dot com , dot shop all that can make a surprisingly big difference for your brand .

Speaker 2

Oh yeah , absolutely . And , like Freshlink , they're the ones who make this cool link management platform . They're all about helping you grow your brand .

Speaker 1

Right .

Speaker 2

And they put on this blog post . That really caught my eye . They dive into the whole idea of using different TLDs as , like a secret weapon for branding , and that's what we're going to be unpacking today .

Speaker 1

Yeah , so their big idea is that you can actually use these different TLDs to kind of segment your brand , you know like so you're not just using your brandcom for , like literally everything .

Speaker 2

Right .

Speaker 1

You could have your brandshop if you have an online store , or like your brandphotography if you're a photographer , right ?

Speaker 2

Oh , that's super smart . It makes so much sense , right , like when you think about it , it's all about making it crystal clear for people what they're going to find when they hit your website . So , instead of just dumping everything onto onecom , you're giving them these little signposts that are like boom , this is where you get the goods , this is where you see the art . You know what I mean .

Speaker 1

Yeah , it see the art . You know what I mean ? Yeah , it's that instant recognition thing , yeah , and actually uh , the article mentions how this like intuitive design yeah can actually boost your uh conversion rates oh yeah , totally , because think about it .

Speaker 2

If you land on a site and you're like , wait , is this a blog , is this a store , where am I ? You're probably gonna bounce right . But if you see dot shop , you know you're in the right place to like pull out your wallet so you're way more likely to actually buy something . There's actually like studies on this specialized tlds can seriously bump up customer confidence makes sense and it also plays into like the credibility thing , right oh yeah , for sure the article um , they gave the example of a law firm using , like dot , legal right .

Speaker 1

It's just instantly makes them seem more legit totally .

Speaker 2

It's like this subtle signal , you know . It's like , hey , we're not just any website , we're the real deal . And in this crazy online world where everyone's vying for attention , that little detail can really make you stand out like it's almost like having a virtual storefront , right , right , except instead of a fancy sign , it's your TLD . That's telling people exactly what you're all about . Makes me think of the first time I saw a io domain . I was like what is that ? Is that even allowed ? And now it's like the go-to for tech companies and startups .

Speaker 1

Right , and that's something that our listeners might want to consider Right , like everyone knows , comcomorg .

Speaker 2

Right .

Speaker 1

But there are like so many options out there . If you're a tech company , io might be perfect . Yeah , if you're a startupco , right , like all these TLDs , that can really kind of help you nail that brand identity .

Speaker 2

Yeah , for sure . But and this is a big but the article does warn against going too crazy with TLDs , Like if you try to grab every single one under the sun , you might actually end up diluting your brand .

Speaker 1

Yeah , and confusing your audience .

Speaker 2

Yeah .

Speaker 1

So it's all about like picking a few key ones that really align with your like core offerings .

Speaker 2

You don't want to spread yourself too thin Right , and I mean honestly . Who wants to manage like 10 different websites ? That just sounds like a logistical nightmare .

Speaker 1

Oh yeah , Total headache .

Speaker 2

And speaking of the practical side of things , you know it's super easy to register new TLDs through like GoDaddy or Namecheap or any of those registrars that part sees it . But then you have to think about like , OK , what am I going to do with this domain ? Am I going to point it to a specific section of my existing site , or am I building a whole new website from scratch ? You got to kind of factor in that technical stuff too .

Speaker 1

Oh , absolutely . That's why I think the big takeaway here is that you got to think about TLDs as part of your , like , overall branding strategy . It's not just about grabbing every shiny new extension that pops up . It's about taking a step back and saying , okay , which of these are actually going to make my brand stronger , make it easier for my target audience to find me and connect with what I do ? So , to sum all this up , using different TLDs it can be a really smart way to kind of segment your brand , build that trust with your audience and really stand out in that crowded online world . But , like with any branding strategy , it's all about being strategic yeah , you know thinking it through absolutely .

Speaker 2

And here's a question to kind of leave you with . Imagine your ideal customer . They land on your website for the first time . What TLD would instantly give them that ? Ah , this is the place feeling . That's the power of a well-chosen TLD great point yeah , it's pretty cool actually all right .

Speaker 1

Well , that is all the time we have for today's deep dive . Thanks for listening everybody see ya .
